Good morning Sharkies!
I am way too tired to make this longer, even though the days announcements are pages and pages of personal wins for our athletes from the smallest to the tallest! I have been so privileged to be there and watch them out swim anything they have yet done!
To recap, Champs is an 8 team, 3 day, invitational style meet with our entire league. There are events with almost 200 swimmers in them! It makes for fast paced but long and crazy days. I got up at 5:15 and it is midnight! By the time we take care of the kids and the pressing household chores (keeping animals alive, washing dishes etc) it can seem like a 20 hour day! So thank you all for coming and I hope you can survive the last day because it has been awesome!
Friday rocked! Shark athletes broke 2 team records and just about every Shark went a best time. It was awe inspiring! Today (Saturday) started with the same energy. I will try to tell you some of the best highlights later this week. Imagine though watching heat after heat with sharks just dropping 3, 4, 8 seconds out of the blue. We even took first and second a few times!
Short and sweet:Sharks broke 7 team records Friday and Saturday with most of the record breakers rebreaking their own new record from prelims when they swam finals.
Friday
Makena and Davis put up new record times in 9/10 IM
Saturday
9/10 Makena Acosta 50free
9/10 Davis Martin 50free
9/10 Hunter Acosta 25free
11/12 Orion Miles 50free
17/18 Savy McDonough 100Free
I will post a more thorough update at a later date. Hopefully I didn't miss anything or mix it up--just let me know.
Please take care of each other, there is something more valuable than records and ribbons and it is the way we treat each other and build a community with each other. We all choose to be here because we want to be, from what I see the happiest we are is when we are holding each other up and celebrating everyones success as just as important as our own!
To that end, we are not in last place for the meet,
our tiny team that has always been in last place, we finished the day in 6th place ahead of two other teams! There's still one more day to go and it will come down to our final relays! Take care of yourselves, hydrate, hose down, and just relax as much as you can. If you need to leave before relays, please make sure coaches and teammates know. (Gwen and Crystal Stake do a great job, save them from finding me or the coaches because they are already super busy--)It is hard to wait all day for your event and then not get to swim.
Let's Go Sharks!!!!
Warm ups are at 7:30, arrive and be ready by 7am. meet starts at 8. check previous email for champs program that has additional information about each event.
See you on the pool deck,
Coach Melanie
