SSL Champs - Day 1

MEET RECAP

Sharkies!

We just got home from Day 1 of Champs and so far it has been awesome. Virtually every kid dropped time. A lot of time! All of our Sharkies are swimming awesome! Of those awesome kids 12 of them got to race Finals:

  • 9/10 girls--Makena Acosta with a new Sharks IM record and 1st place over all, Claire Hagen's with 19th place. (out of 120 other swimmers)

  • 9/10 boys--Davis Martin broke his own IM record he just set a couple of weeks ago and took 1st place, Hunter Acosta shattered his own best time getting 4th place over all, with Josh Forbis (also with a best time) for 16th place (total swimmers 80)

  • 11/12 girls--Addison Mossman took 3rd, Solara Loftus swam off with a solid best time and 6th place and maybe the biggest drop (for the girls) of the whole day--over all--was Sophia Stake dropping 11.25 seconds and securing 14th place! (total swimmers 102)

  • 11/12 boys--Orion Miles with 10th and Jaxson Talbot-Elkins with 14th. (total competitors 72)

  • 13/14 girls--Dakota Alfaquih added a new MOC event with both her time and getting 9th over all out of 79 swimmers.

  • 17/18 women--Same for Macie Banner with a new MOC event and 7th place overall out of 37 swimmers.

  • Biggest PR over all was Caleb Fiegles with a 14.52 improvement! Seriously maybe two swimmers didn't improve and one was a huge goggle malfunction and she still finished really close to her best time.

At the end of the day the best things I saw in our kids was a great mindset, determination, & kids having fun!

Thoughts to carry into the rest of the meet:

  • Put it all out there! Don't hold back anything, climb out of the pool 100% spent.

  • Break your own records!

  • Don't give up!

  • Race!

  • Have fun! You will miss this someday so enjoy the heck out of it!

  • We have had a challenging year in a lot of ways. Still the Sharks have an indomitable spirit!!!! (That means "IMPOSSIBLE TO SUBDUE, UNCONQUERABLE) Fight! Fight! Fight and touch the wall first!

See you all in the morning. Arrive at 6:30 and parade at 7.

See you on the pool deck,

Coach Melanie.
