Folsom Sea Otters 6/15/2024

MEET RECAP

Happy Father's Day Shark Family,

I Hope all the dads had a great Fathers Day and that even if you were busy you got to check out some of the events from US Olympic swimming Time Trials.

Sharks had a great Meet against the Folsom Sea Otters. Just about 1/2 of our team attended the swim meet and swimmers took home 224 individual best times, 17--1st places in individual events, 7--1st place relays and we had a record number of new swimmers get through Butterfly for the first time with no Disqualifications (DQ's) we are getting better every meet. From all age groups combined we only had 4 butterfly DQ's.Speaking of Butterfly!

Congrats to Davis Martin in the 9/10 boys fly where he broke the team record!!!! Yep Davis went a 14.81 to beat the old record 15 seconds flat. Good Job Davis

We had a number of impressive swims with our younger kids continuing to drastically shave off time and develop better and better technique. Our Sharks athletes are actually a very talented group of athletes and as a coach it's easy to see why the kids getting faster are getting faster.

There is a secret cheat code to swimming fast.

The cheat is to go to practice and work hard. Try and make more than 3 practices a week, five is optimal.

Last week Coach Brandon spent the majority of one practice working with the 11/12 age group on mostly backstroke. I watched the rest of the week as some of the girls from that age group really took the information and "swam" with it (see what I did there?). Early Saturday Peyton Nelson was talking to me and I told her today she was going to get MOC in backstroke. Her best time was a :38.27 and MOC is 35.75. She made sure and communicated that she thought that was crazy but I saw that little glint of belief when she smiled. She finished the race with a 3 second drop, got MOC with a time of :35.24! Actually almost all the girls in that age group dropped a substantial time--good job Ladies!

Sharkie spotlight of the week goes to Davis and Peyton! Way to go guys!

I am sitting here (at this point re-) watching the US Swimming Olympic Trials and wishing we were watching together! The Swimming Portion of the the 2024 Paris Olympics are scheduled to run from July 27th to August 4th. I hope you all find some time to sit down and watch the swimming events. Get inspired, get amped and channel that into a swim energy for racing. OUR Champs theme this year is the Olympics!

Next weekends meet has just closed, if you missed the sign up I can still get you in, please text me at 707-772-9589.

Saturday when we raced with the Folsom Sea Otters. Otters had a fantastic meet, breaking two 11/12 records. Congrats to them too.

See you on the pool deck,

Coach Melanie
